Odd sight of the day . . . Returning home from work, I passed a group of workmen along the median in the road. Being workmen, they were dressed in bright orange and yellow vests and helmets and such. They were planting flowerws - also bright orange and yellow. Perfectly matched. and just wierd to see.

Too many bizarre sights to count today - all on one video. My intern and her friends want to do a variety show aimed at teens and college students - somewhere between Wayne's World and JackAss. Just plain . . . wierd.

The other sights aren't all that pleasant. I've regained the weight I lost two years ago. Lost some muscle tone. Can't fit into my capris. grrr. Too much sitting in front of this PC. It's time to do something about it!

Within our VHS stash was an old Richard Simmons Sweatin' to the Oldies workout tape. Scary. Scarier than I remembered. The music is good, the workout is quite a workout, the director should be taken out and shot, and someone evidently spiked the punch. And, well, it's Richard Simmons. Do I need to say more? Also in our stash is Leslie Sandsone (sp?) who does the workout tapes. On them she does 1 mile and 2mile workouts. Very well done, great workout, although the chatter gets annoying. I found that putting in a techno or dance CD and muting the DVD works quite nicely! I started out with the 1 mile, decided to check out the 2 mile and am now considering going out to buy the 3 mile!
I've also ordered a pedometer and a fitness DVD on bellydancing. I figure if I have to exercise, I'm going to learn something new! Or at the very least work myself back up to a point where I can take classes without being TOO out of shape. I've taken all sorts of dance classes . . . it seems bellydancing is one of the next on the list. At least it's something I don't need a partner for.

Yesterday's bizarre sight of the day . . . watching an 18 wheeler make a U-turn on Weihle Avenue. He made it, too!

Passed a house on Station street that had sandbagged their driveway. The way it's been raining, and in that particular area, I don't blame them! Maybe we should have my grandmother sandbag hers . . .

I've been working on a sculpting project - and discovering I can sculpt! At the very least, I'm having a blast. I don't know how much detail I can go into here, since it's a present for a friend, but I'll have pictures up when I'm done!

More forwarded emails sent to work from my boss's husband. . . .

Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed in most public schools anymore because the word "God" is mentioned.... a kid in Arizona wrote a NEW School prayer.

Now I sit me down in school

Where praying is against the rule

For this great nation under God

Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,

It violates the Bill of Rights.

And anytime my head I bow

Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,

That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.

The law is specific, the law is precise.

Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall

Might offend someone with no faith at all.

In silence alone we must meditate,

God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,

And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.

They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.

To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,

And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.

It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,

We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,

Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.

But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,

No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,

When chaos reigns the school's a mess.

So, Lord, this silent plea I make:

Should I be shot; My soul please take!

Amen

Sight of the Day . . . .Driving to work this morning, pass by the high school. Last week, seniors get to leave early! So there, right at the entrance, sit two police cars, lights flashing, cops standing next to the cars, looking stern. A third police car had pulled a van over, so altogether there were three sets of lights flashing at one intersection! It made me laugh. Does it work, or do the seniors just do stupid stuff after they get away from the school?

I was number 62 in line to vote today. That was at 4:15 pm. I know it's only the primaries, but wow! That's not a lot of people, considering the polls have been open since 6 or 7 am! I suppose I could go on about citzenship and apathy, but the only things I knew about the people to be elected were what I heard at work and briefly read on the Post this morning. This job is interesting - I had met three of the candidates!

I really ought to start posting the wierd things I see during the day. From blue parakeets in trees to cellists performing in parking lots, there's definitely some wierd things that go on around here! Friday, while waiting for my car to be inspected, I watched a guy pedal down the sidewalk on a bike a bit too small for him, carrying a large empty box. I'm thinking if you did it right, you could have fit the bike INTO the box. It just struck me as wierd. Where was he going? why bother with the bike? Had the box been full earlier? If so, HOW could he have possibly pedaled without falling over or losing items?

I haven't seen anything odd today . . . but I DID see a red Stingray with the license plate reading "Dreamin." *sighs happily* Oh! And Dad's Tiger Lilies have bloomed! Lots of pretty things on a Monday!

The very best thing about the Herndon Festival is the Monday morning after it. I walk into work . . . and there's no sign that thousands and thousands of people were here for four days. About the only signs are the remaining trailers, some trampled grass and mud, and the remaining workmen. No trash, no debris . . . Herndon's DPW and cleanup crew is fantastic.

Now, I'm not a fancy person. Simplicity is my middle name. I am nearly a minimalist, and this applies to my looks. Heck, I keep my hair short so I can just wash it and go - no combing, no blowdrying, nothing. The same applies to the rest of me. I HATE wearing nailpolish (I feel like I can't use my hands!) Besides, the way my nails grow I would have to redo them every few days! But every once in a while, I get bored or in some sort of weird mood and do something. This time - mendhi. I volunteered at the hands-on art center at the Herndon Festival to be a Fine Arts demonstrator of henna painting on my hands. The feeling I get with nailpolish has now extended to my whole hand! It smells a little funky, and is right now slowly flaking off . . . and losing a bit of detail. It'll be much paler on my hands than when I did it on my feet a few years ago. Mom's appalled, aunts love it, people who see it either start raving over it or giving me odd looks. I'm having fun! Serina did a beautiful job, it looks like fine lace. Very exotic!

This was my only contribution to the festival. After what, 7 years of spending the whole weekend (or close to it!) I'm just plain tired of it! Too many people, too much noise, same things over and over. I just couldn't take it this year! Maybe by next year I'll be working someplace that doesn't have anything to do with it. *Dreams*
